Krishani Product Development has designed the "Dinosaur" a fun multi-functional nail clipper holder for kids. Made out of food-grade silicone, the product is a combination of a toy and a cover for a nail clipper. It can make nail trimming a fun experience for the kids, making this challenging task a bit easier for the parents. Krishani developed the "Dinosaur" a toy and Nail Clipper Holder, making nail trimming less stressful for parents and more fun for children. Here, in this case study, we have explained the problem we faced in developing this product and how we managed to tackle it.
Approach:
Functionality, safety, and design were our objectives for the "Dinosaur." The product needed to safely hold a nail clipper and be made of non-toxic material and safe for children. We made it from food-grade silicone and included rounded edges for comfort and safety. With good material selection, tooling, and ejection, high-quality standards were maintained.
Product Development Strategy:
The Dinosaur wasn't created overnight. Here are the several steps taken to materialize the final product:
1. Design Complexity and Iterations
Designing the Dinosaur was tougher than we'd anticipated. We did three design versions before arriving at the final one. The main obstacle of the toy is its uncommon shape, which needed effective tooling. The team of designers tried their best to see that the mold does not damage the product once created. It's about both safety and functionality.
2. Designing and prototyping
All the design work was done in-house. We created prototype examples to see in real life how the product would look and how it would function, and then we were able to make significant changes based on the client’s feedback. Based on these prototypes, we readied them for production.
3.Manufacturing Challenges
Creating a kid-friendly and manufacturable product was tricky. The ejection process was not easy because of the complex shape. To solve this, we refined the design to ensure smooth ejection while maintaining the product’s structure.
Specialized tooling and polishing were also required to achieve the smooth finish and durability needed. Despite these challenges, the team found creative solutions to balance aesthetics and functionality.
Client Reactions
The client was satisfied with the finished product and the process of production. They enjoyed how the Dinosaur transformed a normal nail clipper into a colorful and useful toy for children.
